ไอบีเอ็มเปิดตัว ‘ซัมมิท’ ซูเปอร์คอมพิวเตอร์ด้านเอไอที่ทรงพลังและเร็วที่สุดในโลก

     ไอบีเอ็ม และกระทรวงพลังงานสหรัฐเปิดเผยถึงความสำเร็จในการพัฒนา ‘ซัมมิท (Summit)’ ซูเปอร์คอมพิวเตอร์ที่ทรงพลังและเปี่ยมด้วยศักยภาพด้านเอไอ (Artificial Intelligence: AI) ที่ฉลาดล้ำที่สุดในโลก โดยซัมมิทสามารถวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลได้ถึง 2 แสนล้านล้านรายการต่อวินาที หรือ 200 เพตาฟล็อป ซึ่งทำให้เป็นซูเปอร์คอมพิวเตอร์ที่เร็วที่สุดในโลก

       ซัมมิทได้รับการออกแบบมาเพื่อรองรับการใช้งานระบบเอไอในยุคที่มีข้อมูลมากมายมหาศาลในปัจจุบัน ด้วยสถาปัตยกรรมแบบใหม่ทั้งหมดที่ผสานศักยภาพด้านการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลที่แข็งแกร่งและทรงพลังของซีพียูของ IBM Power เข้ากับความสามารถด้านดีพเลิร์นนิง (deep learning) ของจีพียู นำสู่ศักยภาพเพื่อรองรับการรันแอพพลิเคชันสำคัญชนิดไม่มีใครเทียบได้

       ปัจจุบันได้เริ่มมีการใช้ซัมมิทในการรันแบบจำลองและโมเดลเพื่อพัฒนางานวิจัยเกี่ยวกับมะเร็ง ทำความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับปัจจัยทางพันธุกรรมที่ส่งผลต่อการเสพติดสารกลุ่มโอปิออยด์ จำลองการปฏิสัมพันธ์ของอะตอมเพื่อคิดค้นวัสุดุที่แข็งแรงและใช้พลังงานอย่างคุ้มค่า รวมถึงเพื่อทำความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับซูเปอร์โนวาและการสำรวจจุดกำเนิดของจักรวาล

       “ซูเปอร์คอมพิวเตอร์ของไอบีเอ็ม นับตั้งแต่ดีพบลู (Deep Blue) ถึงบลูยีน (Blue Gene) ได้นำสู่พลังการประมวลผลมหาศาลที่ทะลายข้อจำกัดด้านศักยภาพ และนำสู่นวัตกรรมก้าวล้ำมากมายตั้งแต่การคาดการณ์สภาพอากาศจนถึงการสำรวจแหล่งขุดเจาะน้ำมัน” นายสุรฤทธิ์ วูวงศ์ รองกรรมการผู้จัดการ ธุรกิจระบบคอมพิวเตอร์สำหรับคลาวด์แพลตฟอร์ม บริษัท ไอบีเอ็ม ประเทศไทย จำกัด กล่าว “วันนี้ถือเป็นไมล์สโตนที่สำคัญของวงการคอมพิวเตอร์ และซัมมิทได้พลิกหน้าสร้างประวัติศาสตร์ ใหม่อีกครั้ง”

        ที่ผ่านมาองค์กรต่างๆ ได้เริ่มใช้สถาปัตยกรรมแบบไฮบริดในลักษณะเดียวกันนี้แล้วผ่านกลุ่มผลิตภัณฑ์ IBM Power Systems AC922 และกลุ่ม IBM POWER9 เซิร์ฟเวอร์รุ่นใหม่ ซึ่งช่วยให้ลูกค้าในกลุ่มต่างๆ อาทิ ธนาคาร การดูแลสุขภาพ ค้าปลีก และคมนาคม สามารถใช้ประโยชน์จากสมรรถนะคอมพิวติ้งขั้นสูงนี้ในการพัฒนาผลิตภัณฑ์และบริการใหม่ๆ ที่ก้าวล้ำ และสามารถสเกลระบบได้ตามต้องการเมื่อมีการขยายการใช้งาน

      “ปัจจุบันไอบีเอ็มกำลังพัฒนาให้สถาปัตยกรรมแบบที่ใช้กับซัมมิทออกมาในรูปแบบคอมเมอร์เชียล เพื่อให้เกิดประโยชน์ต่อธุรกิจในวงกว้าง” นายสุรฤทธิ์กล่าวเสริม

IBM Unveils Summit, the World’s Fastest and Most Powerful AI Supercomputer

     IBM and the U.S. Department of Energy unveiled “Summit,” the world’s most powerful and smartest artificial intelligence (AI) supercomputer. A major computing milestone has been reached as Summit is capable of performing 200 quadrillion calculations per second -or 200 petaflops, making it the fastest in the world.

       Summit is optimized for AI in a data-intense world. It was designed with a whole new heterogeneous architecture that integrates the robust data analysis of powerful IBM Power CPUs with the deep learning capabilities of GPUs. The result is unparalleled performance on critical new applications.

       For instant, Summit can run simulations and models that will help us advance cancer research, understand genetic factors that contribute to opioid addiction, simulate atomic interactions to develop stronger, more energy efficient materials, and better understand supernovas to explore the origins of the universe.
